Zac and Mia by A.J. Betts

Zac and Mia by A.J. Betts tells the story of two teens receiving treatment for two types of cancer, and both handle it in very different ways. Zac achieves this by submerging himself in facts and statistics about survival rates of all types of cancers and being constantly distracted by his worrying tea-and-scone loving mother. Mia is the exact opposite, not accepting treatment willingly, fighting anyone who dares to come near, and pretending that her cancer doesn't exist. The two end up in hospital rooms right next to each other, and begin a friendship through taps on their shared wall and the blasting of Lady Gaga music by Mia. Through alternating viewpoints going back and forth between Zac and Mia every few chapters, you get to witness their pain, sadness, happiness, and joy, all while they come to accept their illnesses. I really enjoyed this story, it would be easy to just think of this book as another The Fault in Our Stars spin-off, but the story line and the characters grab you all on their own.
